At a glance: The UN’s master standard for chemical hazard classification and communication.
UN GHS is the United Nations source version of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, describing harmonized hazard classification and communication tools. 57 It is a set of recommendations that provides a basis for harmonizing chemical rules and regulations nationally, regionally, and worldwide. 58 UN GHS is therefore the reference standard implemented by regional laws such as the EU’s CLP, but it is non-binding until adopted into a jurisdiction’s legislation.
