The CLP Regulation, EC 1272/2008, aligns EU legislation with GHS, the United Nations system for identifying hazardous chemicals and communicating their hazards, and it links to REACH. 35 Since 2008, CLP has required companies to classify, label, and package chemicals before placing them on the market according to legally binding rules. 36 A substance’s CMR classification under CLP can trigger identification as an SVHC; Mutagen covers the mutagenic part of that grouping.
